The verbal derivational suffixes: Their conquest from D and E elementary schools.

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the spelling capacity of D and E elementary
students in terms of verbal derivational suffixes. In particular, we have attempted to look
at the degree of conquest of derivational morphemes [iz], [ev]-[ef], [on] and [en], in
combination with their exceptions, through verbal dictation that appeared in third grade
pupil's school textbooks and in the pupil’s dictionary of D, E and F class of primary
school. At the same time, it was investigated the extent to which students' spellings differ
in the above verbal suffixes regarding their gender and age. The students who participated
in the survey were 192. The spellings of the children were corrected by the researcher by
word. The researcher analyzed numerical data using graphs in Excel and found the
children's tendency to spell misspellings of the verbal derivational suffixes [en] and [on],
but also the exceptions of the verbal suffix [iz]. In addition, she processed the data through
statistical analysis and concluded that no statistical significance was presented to the
participants' mistakes regarding their gender and age.
