Approximately 6 out of 10,000 children per year are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The prevalence of ASD in the population of all people with disabilities has increased in recent years and tends to augment even more. Music therapy as a therapeutic intervention, has been used for children with autism in the 1950s. In the last 70 years of practice of music therapy, research on the present therapeutic procedure has investigated the effectiveness of music therapy for improving multi-functional areas affected by the symptoms of autism. However, the results vary. In this study, that constitutes a meticulous systematic review of the current literature, the objective was to record data about the use of music therapy as a modern diagnostic and therapeutic tool for autism.
