Summary:
Nowadays, New Technologies are an important tool in teachers’ hands. The technological progress and its intrusion to our daily life has affected education as well. Basic target of an educational system that is to prepare correctly the future citizens and help them take advantage of the opportunities that New Technologies provides.
In our days many activities can take place using New Technologies in all learning fields. The benefits of New Technology introduction are plenty, the most important though is the simplification of working methods. The ‘’teacher-central’’ approach of knowledge, as well as the teacher authority, are controversial. The utilization of ICT fosters students’ involvement in knowledge creation, in pursuit and critical attitude towards the information that they receive.
Variable means of New Technologies can enforce the History learning, which is often unappreciated in students’ conscience because of its traditional approach and evaluation that promotes the memorization. In this field, a lot of software and audiovisual means (radio, moving images) can induce substantial changes, not only in understanding, but also in interest attraction.
This master taking in consideration the New Technologies employment in education endeavored to enhance not only the historical knowledge of students in Primary school- especially in last class- but also to provide supplementary historical material by creating the educational video. The utilization of this material and plenty other activities which will be presented as a complete teaching approach, will give the students the opportunity to come in touch with variable historical sources (scripts, images, audiovisual material). Emphasis, though, will be given to audiovisual sources in order for the students to understand the value of Cinema as a dynamic source and keep a critical position towards vision representations.
For this reason, the educational video ‘’Revolution of ‘21’’ was created, which is an audiovisual composition consisted of cinema material of Greek movies, relevant images and story narration. As far as the construction of this thesis is concerned the first part includes the theoretical validation of New Technologies value in education, of the educational video, of the contemporary teaching approaches of History learning and also the contribution of Cinema as a factor of historical knowledge. In the second part are presented the searching procedure that was followed as far as the video creation, the evolving stages are concerned but also the pedagogic validation of the method and the selected audiovisual abstracts. Finally, it is proposed a complete teaching scenario of history lesson, in which is employed the educational video and a sum of various historical sources.
Finally, it is essential to underline that the educational video ‘’Revolution of ‘21’’ is created strictly as a supportive material of this thesis for educational reasons and its promotion will be used only for the validation of this thesis.
