Trans-national Professional Associations and Professional Networks Promoting the School Manager's Profession
Summary:
In the context of this thesis, we have studied transnational professional associations as well as professional networks promoting the position of director of the school unit in various European countries as well as in the United States, based on the observation that nowadays an increasingly big shift in the field of education towards the profes-sionalization of the school director while at the same time the concept of management gradually gives its place to the concept of leadership.
The new situation in the field of education, which is gradually being developed and which is related to the professionalization of the school leader, has led the latter to be invited to acquire a set of new knowledge and skills, as well as to certify his knowledge in relation to with the subject of school administration.
Another major issue highlighted in the context of this thesis is the need for the decen-tralization of education systems around the world. Despite the fact that in all the countries we have studied in this thesis, decentralization has taken place in the field of education, such as England, Finland, Sweden, United States of America and others, however, there are countries such as is for example Greece and Austria, where their education system remains largely centralized, and bureaucracy also plays a major role.
