Summary:
Occupational physicians are specialized professionals who are able to recognize and assess the risk that could result in accidents or diseases that could happen in the workplace. They are responsible for the employee medical evaluation concerning fitness for work, for the position that are going to fill in or they already work. In our country, there is legislation that obliges companies to employ an occupational physician depending on the company’s size.
The aim of this study was to investigate the perception of the occupational physician’s role by companies and the degree to which this is utilized.
Method: The data were collected by means of an anonymous questionnaire that was developed specifically for this study from 50 companies and they were mainly answered from the Human Resources Manager. The collected data were analysed by descriptive statistics.
The results showed that a large percentage of companies’ managers have realized the role of occupational physicians and in some cases, are used for that reason and in some cases not.
In conclusion, there should more information to the companies responsible staff for the capabilities they pocess so that they utilize the occupational physician in the best possible way, so that they succeed to have better work climate, which could result in positive influence on workers health as well as that of the companies.
