This thesis analyze the phenomenon of terrorism in Greece in the years 1970-2016. In the first chapter there is a historical flashback on the phenomenon of terrorism. The second chapter provides theoretical evidence on terrorism, such as its definition, causes, consequences and forms. The third chapter reports the variables contained in the database and describes descriptive statistics showing tables and diagrams from which significant conclusions are made regarding terrorist attacks, terrorist organizations, strikes and targets, which were diverse .
The fourth chapter provides an analysis of the chronological series of terrorist attacks in the years 1970-2016. More specifically, this chapter analyze the isolation of trend, seasonality and random component from the chronological order as well as control of stationary. Then, in the fifth chapter, we use the Holt-Winters filter, which implements a pattern of the chronological order that will help us make a forecast for the years 2017 and 2018. In addition, this chapter evaluates a SARIMA model, the which will simulate the chronological order and its results, that is, a credible amount, will be a test carried out between the original data of 2016 and the estimates.
The sixth chapter contains a clustering, in which sets of data are created (number of strokes / year), a group with them within a standard deviation, one within two standard deviations and one above two and another a grouping in which the data (number of strokes / year) are grouped according to their distance from the mean value. In conclusion, the final chapter has the conclusions from the analysis.
