Summary:
The subject of this diploma thesis is the investigation of the available alternative sites and the selection and proposal of the most suitable for the installation of the landfill site in the Prefecture of Messinia. The assessment of available sites is based on multi-criteria analysis and benchmarking according to valid eligibility criteria so that the final choice has the least possible impact on the natural and man-made environment.
The individual research papers that contributed to the approach of the diplomatic study objectives and the particular problems that it focused on are the following:
Overview of the characteristics of the area, housing and population data, productive
activities and existing land uses. Analysis of geomorphology and hydrographic network of the wider region. Investigation of geological and hydrogeological conditions in order to identify, assess and
optimally address any geological and hydrogeological problems. Presentation and analysis of seismic and seismic hazard data of the area of interest. Collect existing data and data on waste management. Defining the criteria for selecting the appropriate space and specifying the exclusion or suitability conditions. Assessment of alternative sites and selection of the optimum solution for the installation of the landfill site.
