Quality of life of children with cancer
Summary:
Introduction: Childhood cancer affects the quality of life in a number of areas of life including physical, social and psychological functioning, resulting in serious psychological and physical problems for both the child himself and his family.
Aim: The aim of this research was to systematically review the international English-language literature of the period 2005-2018, which was concerned with assessing the quality of life of children with cancer treated for the treatment of childhood cancer diagnosed, as well as investigating the factors that might affect it.
Methodology: Bibliographic searches were conducted in the international PubMed and Google scholar databases in 2005-2018. The search included a combination of the various terms (keywords) and a combination of these terms, such as: using ‘health-related quality of life AND children with cancer’ ,‘quality of life AND children with cancer’.
Results: From the systematic review, 2265 papers were initially found but after the inclusion and exclusion criteria were met, 40 articles were produced. Most work came from the United States (N = 14), with the largest number being published in 2017 (N = 7), while 68% were cross-sectional (N = 29) in children with 62% (N = 25), and the most used research tools were Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Generic Scales 4.0, with 27 out of 40 jobs at 67.5%. In the course of this systematic review they have been found to influence the quality of life of children with cancer: the diagnosis of their own cancer, the treatment of childhood cancer itself, the phase of the treatment in which the patients were suffering from cancer children was found to significantly affect the quality of life of children with cancer during their treatment to treat it, the particular treatment method that is considered the most appropriate to treat and the intensity of treatment depending on the childhood cancer diagnostic group, the characteristics of the children who had been diagnosed with cancer, including for the first time, as well as the spirituality of the young patients who had been struck by cancer, as well as support from their family in the fight they made to defeat him.
Conclusions: There is a need for ongoing research and education on the quality of life of children with cancer that illuminates all aspects of the disease.
