Crownfunding success factors: the case of act4Greece from National Bank of Greece
Summary:
Crowdfunding is a simple, internationally recognised funding practice through which everyone can contribute to supporting and implementing various actions. It is an innovative financing tool engaging public participation and characterised by immediacy, high speed in reaching goals as well as great importance regarding the current economic context of both restrictions on access to finance but also rapid developments in the sector of communications technology, which facilitates the access of start-ups or of public benefit and charitable proposals to investors and vice versa.
The main objective of this work is the comparison of the first and second phase of the donation based crowdfunding program and platform of National Bank of Greece, named act4Greece, regarding the success of actions using the Integrated Impact Project (IIP) created in 2017 and serving in predicting the success of crowdfunding actions through the assessment of a series of factors.
In order to attain a better understanding of crowdfunding and hence of the IIP model, reference is made to the notion, its operation and types, as well as to some key values from international experience and worldwide known platforms. Additionally, basic definitions formulated by the academic community are presented and international experience is analysed through a literature review of relevant studies on success factors which serves as a basis for choosing these exact factors used to implement the IIP model. The act4Greece program as well as the IIP model are then analysed in detail. Subsequently, A and B phases are presented separately, and then a comparative study of the two phases is undertaken taking into account and analysing all the success factors. Finally, the conclusions of the study and proposals for further research and improvement of both the model and the proposals of the submitted actions are presented.
