Summary:
In this thesis the study area is the part of the Danube that penetrates the country of Hungary. An analysis will be made of the quantity and type of chemicals present in the rivers ecosystem and the short- and long-term impacts on human health will also be analyzed, as activities taking place on the Danube, affect directly the lives and health of people in the area. Research has shown that there are quantities of heavy metals and organic pollutants on the surface of the river but also at the bottom, as well as quantities of complexing agents, aromatic sulfonic acids and material breakdown products. In addition, the results of the European Water Framework Directive will be analyzed and
proposals will be made for better management of the sensitive and particular ecosystem of the Danube which will help to improve the quality of life for the inhabitants of this region.
