This thesis focuses on the role of Jupiter in the genre of Roman love elegy and, in particular, on the aspect of the king of the gods in the works of Tibullus, Propertius and Ovid. The role of Jupiter is examined in erotic, religious and poetological context as well as in relation to the political propaganda of the Augustan regime, as it is pictured in the Propertian corpus.
