Summary:
Patriarch Nikephoros I composed historical and theological writings. One of them the “Chronografikon Syntomon” was composed out of a great number of manuscripts and published by Carolus de Boor, Nicephori archiepiscopi constantinopolitani opuscula historica, Νικηφόρου πατριάρχου Κωνσταντινουπόλεως χρονογραφικὸν σύντομον, Lipsiae 1880, republication New York, 1975.
The present essay includes a version of “Chronografikon” originating from an unpublished code from the monastery of Skiathos (number 11) from the first half of the 14th century. At the same time, it is compared to the publication of the de Boor ant there is an analysis of the historical context, the complete oeuvre and the effect, the period of iconoclasm had on the life and work of Nikephoros I.
At last, part of this essay includes the publication of the tables where the classes of bishops are documented and the comparison to those of Jean Darrouzès, Notitiae episcopatuum Ecclesiae Constantinopolitanae, Paris, 1981.
