Summary:
The aim of this paper is to present the corporate environment of present day Greece, through
the study of three startup companies, which operate in tourism. More specifically, the aim is to
record the existence and the level of innovation in Greece, as well as in the field of Tourism,
the opportunities and problems of Greek free enterprise and to analyze all the features of the
startup companies.
The findings presented in the paper, derive from primary research, through interviews with one
of the founders chosen from each company, but also from secondary sources, such as books,
scientific articles, published researches and summaries. The approach method of the topic was
twofold: first of all, recent and valid evidence of the innovation, the entrepreneurship, and the
startup companies is cited, mainly on a theoretical content, but also on statistical scales. On the
other hand, the qualitative research of the three companies records all the details of the startups,
as well as the environment in which they were created and function.
The result of the present study is that tourism constitutes one of the pillars of the Greek economy
with great potential in the coming years. Innovation, a basic element of competition,
development and viability of businesses (mainly those which operate in Tourism), depends on
research and development, factors which, unfortunately, our country lacks. Although there are
evolutionary ideas, the Greek corporate environment presents many obstacles for entrepreneurs
and radical changes must be made on the part of the government to facilitate free enterprise and
the increase in national competition. In the last years of the economic crisis, an increase in the
establishment of startup companies with innovative products and services has been observed in
our country, contributing to dealing with unemployment, financial development of the country
and the overreach of free enterprise.
