"Museum A". An open museum is being born in the centre of Athens in order to narrate the stories of people and cultures
Summary:
An area of the historical and commercial center of Athens, Gerani, is being transformed into an open city museum. The aim is to narrate the stories of Greek and foreign immigrants who live and work there and to become an area of expression, cultural creation and scientific research. We have chosen Euripides Street as a crucial point of the neighborhood, where hundreds of Greeks and foreigners are working and operating. This area has multicultural characteristics, a long history of commerce and contribution to the economy of the city of Athens and active presence in the same fields.
The "Museum-A", with the letter "A" referring to the concepts: Man (Anthropos – Άνθρωπος), Narration (Afigisi – Αφήγηση), Athens (Αθήνα), aims to capture and highlight life stories; stories of the protagonists who will want to participate with their own testimonials recorded on video, as well as with objects or intangible elements they will offer in order to complete the image that represents and depicts them, individually and culturally.
All the aforementioned features will constitute the collections of the Museum – A. These collections will be projected on the surfaces of the buildings of the Gerani district and will also be physically exhibited inside the buildings. All these elements will constitute the museum’s shell. The streets of the area will be open spaces for action, expression and culture for the local community members.
All exhibits, actions, creations and events will be also available at the museum's website.
