Summary:
Over the last decades, businesses have been constantly aim at improving their business processes, one of which, the supply chain, has a significant impact on the environment. At the same time, the phenomenon of globalization has forced businesses to increasingly integrate issues of competitiveness, quality and morality towards society and the natural environment in which it operates. With a constant aim of coping with the ever-increasing competitive pressures are present in today’s markets, companies are inventing more new methods of operation and introduce new practices that are in line with the rules and requirements set by international organizations. These practices help reduce costs and save energy and raw materials, and are simultaneously environmentally friendly and strengthen their sense of responsibility towards the environment. In such a framework this thesis reflects an attempt to redesign the internal processes of the supply chain placing the emphasis on increased environment protection..

This diploma thesis titled "Green Supply Chain & Corporate Social Responsibility. The case of Goldair Cargo SA " is an attempt to integrate the concepts of supply and Green Logistics, their history and philosophy, as well as to present the magnitude of the environmental impacts of the supply chain. The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility and its role in a business firm will also be developed. In addition, this thesis aims at pointing out more environment – friendly and environmental – ethical operation methods a company can follow in order to achieve, on one hand cost reduction, increase profitability and greater customer credibility and on the other hand to build a good reputation in the business community.

The empirical part of the thesis highlights the conclusions and suggestions that have been extracted through the method of qualitative research, which in this case carried out by the interview with executives of Goldair Cargo SA. Through this method of data collection, it is possible to investigate whether a real case of a Greek company operates according to the theoretical framework of green logistics and what difficulties can arise that will hold back the adoption of a green supply chain.
