The financial recession of 2008
Summary:
The global economic recession of 2008 is perhaps considered the second largest in history
after the turmoil of the global economy in the 1930s. Economists believe that regulatory
liberalization of the market is the main cause of this event, as it has caused a domino of unfair
and unethical operations by financial institutions, giving loans to people with very low credit
ratings and causing the demand for real estate to skyrocket, thus creating a bubble. The thesis
is descriptive and its purpose is to investigate the causes of this terrible event. The research
also mentions the events that led to the Great Crisis in 2007, as well as also the complex
financial instruments that played a major role in this event. It also chronicles the history of
the crisis from the beginning to the end, while describing the causes of the recession, thus
giving the answer to the question raised for this research. The work concludes that ultimately
the main responsible for this economic collapse is the government and the central bank, as the
correct policies could have avoided this catastrophe.
