Summary:
In the competitive modern world, we come across illness in various aspects of life. An adaptive response to stress results in a hormonal change at an organic level, aiming at surviving the person in demanding conditions. Before and after a thoracic surgery, patients experience a cascade of hormonal and biochemical changes that translate into surgical pressure that affects both mentally and physically, and also has a direct impact on their postoperative course and rehabilitation. At the same time, the minimally invasive method of thoracoscopy continuously occupies ground in the field the treatment of thoracic cavity diseases. In this way, it is necessary to continuously review the impact of new applied thoracoscopic methods on the stress levels of patients with severe thoracic problems.
The aim of this paper is to review the available literature to highlight the biochemical and hormonal effect of video- assisted thoracoscopic surgical techniques in the perioperative stress levels experienced by patients undergoing such surgical procedures.
The methodology followed was that of secondary qualitative research and more specifically through a systematic bibliographic review in the Pubmed database.
What has been revealed is that the use of advanced methods, such as video- assisted thoracoscopic surgery, seems to mitigate surgical pressure, contributing to the downward trend of many of the deleterious health factors that result from it.
