Οι επιπτώσεις του Brexit στην ευρωπαϊκή οικονομία: Ποια η δύναμη του City του Λονδίνου;
Translated title:
The impact of Brexit on the european economy: The power of the City of London
Summary:
In June 2016 the UK's citizens have voted for their country to leave the EU. In the aftermath of the Brexit referendum, the UK and the EU are negotiating a new deal that will determine their future relationship. This paper focuses on the impications of Brexit for one of the four fundamentals of the european single market, the free movement of services, and especially the financial sector. Given that the UK and the EU have created over the years an interdependent relationship from the City of London, brexit is to hurt both economies. It appears, however, that the influence of this financial interdependence on the Brexit Negotiations is limited, as both sides are keen to preserve what's politically at stake. The EU's financial integration could create scale economies equivalet to the City of London, but it is unclear if there is consensus among member states towards this goal.
