Ο ρόλος των ιδεών στη διαμόρφωση της πολιτικής των ΗΠΑ προς το Ιράν. Από την Προεδρία Carter μέχρι και την Προεδρία Trump.
Translated title:
The importance of ideas in the USA policymaking towards Iran. From Carter to Trump Administration.
Summary:
Until 1979 American- Iran relations were friendly mostly because the authority was at the hands of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, a pro-western monarch who served american interests in the Persian Gulf. After the iranian revolution of 1979, Pahlavi was replaced by a theocratic regime under the leadership of Ayatollah Khomeini and as a result relations between the two countries became hostile. Iran accused the United States of imperialistic behaviour by using expressions as ''The Great Satan'' and the United States targeted Iran as a state that supported terrorism. Since then, Iran was characterized as ''state sponsor of terrorism'', as a ''rogue state'' or a part of the ''axis of evil'' creating a narrative which follows the country until today. This dissertation focuses on how the ideas of American policy makers affected their policy towards Iran and which frame of ideas was constructed to support this policy.
