Summary:
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between museum and preschool
education in the context of intercultural education in the modern kindergarten.
Specifically, the work explores the connection between museum and kindergarten
through the exploitation of mobile museum material with intercultural content, as
well as the attitude of the primary school teachers regarding possible ways of using it.
To this end, the present role of museums in the field of education - and particularly in
the field of intercultural education - has been sought. For the present research, mobile
museum material was designed, implemented and evaluated on the occasion of some
of the exhibits of the Toy Museum - Benaki. The museum kit included improvised
material but also material from the museum's shop concerning the theme of shadow
theater. This topic was chosen because in kindergarten, children are usually familiar
with the theater and its techniques. Criterion for selecting the material was its
"openness" and its ability to be used for various activities depending on the interest
of the group. The museum kit includes eleven activities, mainly theatrical activities in
order to serve the theme of the present research.
Regarding the methodology followed, a questionnaire was selected. Ten kindergarten
teachers completed the questionnaire. The sample was an opportunity sample that
the researcher had access to. Throughout the research, modern pedagogical methods,
practices and museopedagogical theories have been taken into account. All the
activities of the museum kit are based on the current curriculum of the kindergarten
so that they respond realistically to the needs of pre-school age.
