Public services transactions: from needs analysis to the establishment of a level A curriculum for adult refugees and immigrant students of Greek as a Second language
Summary:
The aim of this dissertation is the design of a language curriculum as far as teaching Greek as a second language and communication in public services concerned. It is addressed to refugees with no prior knowledge of the Greek language who aim at social integration in the Greek reality. Drawing data from interviews with interpreters - intercultural mediators, field observation, online research and Greek coursebooks it attempts a qualitative description of the primary for the refugees public services and the collection of language material which form the following language syllabus. This syllabus is addressed to special needs, attended to specific learners and replenishes linguistic shortcomings of the existing bibliography. Lastly, it is strongly pointed out that the learner attended this program does not turn to an independent or proficient user of the Greek language, but personal and social empowerment is what this program aims at.
