Institutions and protection policies for the rehabilitation of prisoners
Summary:
This research attempts to explore policies and institutions for the protection and rehabilitation of prisoners. The first part presents the discrimination to which prisoners are subjected, such as the policies which have to deal with them. Then, the essay presents the issue of social exclusion, among with all the meanings of it. The analysis of the stigmatization phenomenon of former detainees is presented both as a cause and as a result. The next issue that is being investigated is the rehabilitation and social reintegration, and at a later stage the Penitentiary System of Greece. The second part of the research initially hosts practices for reintegration into prisons, such as work, prisoners' leave, and education. Secondly, practices for rehabilitation outside prisons, and in particular prisons policies as public policy, are developing. Finally, the last part presents the conclusions of the survey and propose public policies dealing with the general Penitentiary System.
