Original Title:
Η επίπτωση της σαρκοπενίας και η επίδρασή της σε χειρουργικούς ασθενείς
Translated title:
The incidence of sarcopenia and its effect on surgical patients
Summary:
Sarcopenia, reducing muscle mass, strength and functionality in the elderly, is an important problem for public health. Sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, alcohol and smoking can be important factors in its development. At the same time, the development of other conditions such as obesity can contribute to the progress of sarcopenia and the new population. At the same time, the importance of exercise in the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia should be emphasized. Various clinical studies have demonstrated the benefits of exercise through programs of combining aerobic exercise and resistance exercises. In particular, an increase in muscle mass, strength and functionality has been observed. In addition, a proper diet program combined with an exercise program can further contribute to the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia. This makes it more and more important to create more clinical trials to create more new exercise protocols that will be key drivers for health professionals to make the right strategic decision-making decisions. Finally, sarcopenia is an increased risk factor for surgically treated patients, as it has been shown to increase mortality, post-operative complications, relapses and average length of stay in the hospital. Early and accurate diagnosis of the disease can prevent adverse effects on the postoperative clinical picture of patients, as healthcare professionals will be able to design tailor-made treatment programs for these patients.
