Polycystic ovary syndrome
Summary:
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder of women, which is estimated to affect five to ten million women of childbearing potential. For women trying to conceive, polycystic ovarian syndrome is a serious, common cause of infertility - almost half of all cases of infertility in women can be attributed to polycystic ovarian syndrome. Women with PCOS often have obesity, glucose tolerance and dyslipidemia. These women also have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular events as well as developing type II diabetes mellitus later in life, metabolic syndrome and other complications have as a single symptom the infertility, which is mainly due to an ovulatory cycles. Women with PCOS and infertility who wish to become pregnant after conceiving a good history and excluding other causes should be treated in specialized centers by doctors with knowledge of reproductive endocrinology and treated for ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate or eventually undergo other methods of capture. In pregnant women, there is often an increased risk of pregnancy in relation to the general population, early miscarriages, abortions, pregnancy diabetes mellitus, and macrosomiasis. There is an increased incidence of caesarean section and a high incidence of complications in neonates with high chance of SGA infant birth. During pregnancy, there is also an increased risk of developing hypertensive disorders and preeclampsia. Because of the multiple complications they may experience, these pregnancies should be treated as high-risk pregnancies.
