Obesity and quality of life
Summary:
Introduction: Obesity nowadays is a disease, which can cause a lot of physical and psychological problems, making obese people less capable of managing their every day's responsibilities and needs. The purpose of this assignment is to recognise how the quality of life of obese people can be affected and the consequences that obesity has in their lifestyle.
Methodology: The systematic research of publications, was carried out mainly using the Internet and it was concentrated on obesity, the sectors of physical and psychological health and the principles of quality of life affected by it.,
Results: It was found that the quality of life is directly and holistically affected by obesity considering that the person suffers in a lot of his/her life’s aspects, such as the needs, the desires, the social life, the personal development and the behaviour. Society stigmatizes obese people with its tendency of putting them aside. This leads them to lose chances in social and professional life. The health of an obese person can be affected from secondary diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, various types of cancer, sleep apnoea, depression, acute pancreatitis and hypertension. Many times, obesity starts in the childhood and as a result, obese children become obese adults with a lot of secondary diseases.
Conclusion: The quality of life of these people is quite affected by secondary to obesity diseases and that requires additional help in their care. Starting with a change in lifestyle and following healthier habits as well as introducing exercise in everyday life gives a motivation. If it is not successful then the obese person can be referred to pharmaceutical or surgical methods as bariatric surgery, which has more efficient and long-term results. When the person’s weight is reduced there is an improvement in all life aspects and the quality of the lifestyle.
