Vaccination indicators and calculated vaccination coverage of workers in health services
Summary:
Introduction - Background: The emergence of new pathogens, the resurgence of old and the emergence of resistant strains, pose tremendous challenges worldwide for workers in the health sector.
Aim: The investigation of vaccination indications and the estimated vaccination coverage of healthcare workers both globally and in Greece.
Methodology: Systematic Review.
Results: Vaccination coverage rates are far from 100% in many countries and are subject to substantial fluctuations. The failure of vaccination programs is due, on the one hand, to the non-compliance of health professionals and, on the other hand, to the lack of stable policy, skilled staff and infrastructure on the part of the state.
Conclusions: In countries where massive vaccinations have been effective, as in Greece, the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases has declined to a large extent. A well-functioning vaccination program is a key component of successful public health interventions against infectious diseases. To optimize results, an effective immunization service requires careful planning, execution and monitoring.
