Providing Career Counseling with the help of Information Technology
Summary:
The aim of this study was to investigate the importance of providing Career Counseling with the help of information technologies, through the qualitative methodology and through the use of semi-structured interview. More specifically, a historical review of Counseling and online Counseling was attempted, along with a presentation of the new trends in the labor market, which included the introduction of technology. In addition, a list of online Career Counseling services in Greece was rendered, which were provided through the Career Offices of the educational institutions of the country and the companies / private sector, as well as the online Career Counseling services abroad. Moreover, the case study of "100mentors" and the possibilities, which are offered by this company / platform were examined. Furthermore, the current Code of Ethics abroad and in Greece was presented, as well as possible proposals for the reformulation of the country’s current Code of Ethics. All of this, of course, taking into account the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which has been in force for some time all over Europe and its impact on the online Career Counseling field. The most important results focus on the urgent need for the establishment of online Career Counseling in Greece, in an organized and methodical way, at all levels of the educational sector of Greece’s (primary, secondary and tertiary) educational system and its subsequent professional development. Finally, recommendations are offered for future research on the basis of the conclusions of this study and improvement of the online Career Counseling structure in Greece, so that it can subsequently stay up and adapt to date with not only developments required by the professional and scientific community but also those required by the European community.
