Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Gastrointestinal Tract and the Pancreas. Experience of a Tertiary Center.
Summary:
Neuroendocrine tumors are a heterogenous group of neoplasms which exhibit the common trait of being able to produce serotonin and various other bioactive amines, and which share some unique morphological, clinical and oncological features. The rare nature and relatively indolent progress of these tumors has restricted the potential for accruing large series of patients, as well as for designing and carrying out large multicentric randomized trials. The present manuscript presents the results of such a 10-year single centre series of patients with neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal system, as well as a review of the latest literature pertinent to them.
