Flow of post-graduate students in the Dental School of the Kapodistrian University of Athens during the period 1994-2016
Summary:
The present descriptive, retrospective study aims at investigating the flow of the MSc students who had followed programs offered in the Dental School UoA (University of Athens). Data were obtained by the secretary offices of the Dental School UoA (University of Athens) and from ex MSc students who had fulfilled their studies and currently are actively practicing dentistry.
The data were listed in random order and variables were codified. More specifically, data that were retrieved from secretary office, involved: sex, the number of MSc programs each candidate expressed interest in, before selection, the University of primary Dental studies, year of enrollment in the MSc program and graduation, the title of the MSc program, the year of removal in the cases of students who distanced themselves from studies and finally place of origin. The number of affirmed MSc programs were encoded with the numbers 1 to 14.
During the second segment of the study a questionnaire was forwarded to MSc practitioners as who had followed one of the offered MSc programs in the Dental School UoA (University of Athens). Various data were aggregated through their replies.
In conclusion, in this research, apart from archiving and digitizing data that were pilled for over 20 years, important outcomes emerged. These could be abbreviated as follows:
• The MSc programs demonstrate a dynamic progress through time, which is related to the University’s developments and the international scientific field
• It is obvious that the students require more time to fulfil their studies, than what is officially anticipated
• No statistically significant differences were detected between males and females in all fields of interest
• All respondents claimed that the MSc studies benefited their professional career
• The impact of economic crisis is intense in the dental profession and specialties
• Significant proportion of the respondents have offered their services as collaborators in the dental school after their MSc graduation
• The respondents demonstrated, in high proportion, the tendency to attend the activities of the scientific companies they are registered to.
• The clear majority of the MSc students graduated from the dental school of Athens (UoA)
