Approaching New Technologies through the Holistic Education of the Child, Waldorf Education
Summary:
This thesis presents Waldorf Educational Movement, analyzing the values that govern it and the importance it attaches to the stages of child development and art in education. Still, the approach of this pedagogy to new technologies is presented, which is based on the preparation of the human brain for the digital age and the cultivation of ethical thinking. Finally, it analyzes how the school ought to fulfill the above at the appropriate age of the child in order to fully prepare the young people for the technological world we are currently living.
In addition, the work is accompanied by four interviews, teachers, doctors, parents who, from their studies and experience, give their opinion, supporting the view of Waldorf education about the entry of new technologies into education at the appropriate age of the child.
The thesis is structured in three chapters. The first describes the life of the mentor of this pedagogy, Rudolf Steiner, and depicts the development of these schools throughout the world. The second analyzes how pedagogy, pedagogical principles and teaching methods are structured, focusing on the physical, mental and intellectual needs of the child at each stage of development. Finally, the Waldorf pedagogical proposal is presented and documented to bring education closer to the new media, bearing in mind the holistic development of the child.
