Specific issues of witness protection in the criminal court

The subject of the thesis is the research and critical approach of the witness protection measures as they are categorized in article 9 of Law 2928/2001. The analysis of each protection measure highlights the need to balance the conflicting interests, namely the protection of the witness's rights and the defendant's rights. In addition, the newly introduced institution of the public interest witness, provided for in Article 45B of the Criminal Procedure Code, was examined. An analysis of the conditions that must be met to attribute this status to an individual has been analyzed, while the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights has been helped by the case, as it has, in many cases, dealt with cases of people who disclose mismanagement and illegal practice within an entity (service, business, organization).
