Ethics - oriented banking and finance: A comparative analysis on the most promising contemporary approaches
Summary:
Mainstream banking has received staunch criticism following the outbreak of the Global Financial Crisis, among other reasons, for its lack of ethics. Such disillusionment about conventional banks' ethics has served to bring alternative forms of banking and finance to the spotlight while also leading to significant amendments of the relevant legal framework. This thesis seeks to explore three types of alternative, ethics-oriented banking, namely ethical, cooperative and Islamic banks, by delving into their main features, explaining their key differences to mainstream banking operations and discussing their perspectives.
