Business Ethics
Summary:
In modern globalized society, businesses are often called to adjust to the new economic standards, develop according to the new social needs and function in a regulatory framework. During the recent years it has been observed that in the business world, new profitable opportunities are presented on the one hand (especially for large companies) and on the other hand their managerial structure gets more complicated. It appears businesses take into consideration that viable growth doesn’t relate only to the profit percentage but also to weather each business acts responsibly towards society. This led the majority of companies to adopt and implement business ethics and social responsibility practices. Business ethics refers to the moral rules that must govern the business internally and externally. Social responsibility refers to the code of conduct in the business circle.
The purpose of this thesis is no other than the analysis of the term “business ethics” or “ethics of businesses” and its modern necessity. The structure of this thesis is based in three axes. Firstly, business is presented as a social institution, meaning the definition of the term business and how it interacts with society.
Subsequently, the introduction to the notion of ethics follows and the analysis of the business ethics issue. At that point the different forms and the substances of business ethics are being developed as well as and their role and rules. The third part focuses on corporate business ethics, formulating and exploring the relation between business ethics and social needs, as well as the code of ethics of each business. Finally, in the epilogue all parts are summarized and conclusions are being drawn.
