Τhe suitability of the textbook "Geia Sas: H proti gnorimia" for the Roma students
Summary:
This study explores the suitability of the educational material used in Reception Classes of the Greek Elementary School, for the educational needs of Roma students. Its purpose is to determine how the textbook "Hello 1: First acquaintance" meets the Roma students’ learning profile and explore whether it uses their socio-cultural characteristics in order to integrate them smoothly, not only into school but also in the wider social reality. Willing to achieve the goal with consistency, continuity and success, we used the method of qualitative research and the semi-structured interview as a methodological tool. The Teachers of the Educational Priority Zones were the most appropriate sample under investigation. According to the results of our research the textbook "Hello 1: The first acquaintance" is a remarkable auxiliary material for the teaching of Greek language to Roma students, but it does not work with most of their socio-cultural characteristics
