Comparative study of implant fixation screws between authentic and compatible implant systems
Summary:
Introduction
Implant fixation screw has always been the ‘’weak link’’ in implant restorations. When new materials and designing changes applied on fixation screws prosthetic complications reduced sevearly. However estimating present economic environment and the need for lower cost of implant restoration few companies attemted to create compatible parts which can fit in well known brands.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to compare the mechanical properties, chemical composition and geometrical features of authentic fixation screws with compatible to the system screws. The null hypothesis is that differences exist between the two groups.

Materials and Methods
Fixation screws from different companies (Astra, Xive, Nobel, 3i, Straumann, MIS) as well as compatible to these systems screws were tested for their mechanical properties (hardness, modulus of elasticity), their chemical composition (EDS, ) and through SEM to their dimensions.

Results
A 2 wayAnova indicated statistically differnces between the two groups in mechanical properties, composition and dimensions.

Conclusion
• Morphological differences appear between original and compatible retention screws
• Dimensions differences exist between original and compatible retention screws
• Diversity in dimensions appear between original retention screws
• Ti-Al-V was the construction alloy exept Straumann where the alloy was Ti- Al-Nb.
• Microhardness was statistically different between the two groups
