Summary:
In recent years, the great population shifts that have been observed in the Greek as well as in the broader European area had as a result the transformation of societies into multicultural ones causing changes to other sectors of everyday life too. As it has been expected, this situation has influenced the field of education as well, bringing to the front not only the issue of multiculturalism but also that of multicultural education being significant matters for the psychosocial adjustment and mental welfare of all people involved and especially of the students. In the current study, teachers’ attitudes towards multicultural education and, their resilience, which is an important dimension related to teachers’ work and their self-effectiveness. A scale of multiculturalism and a teachers’ resilience scale were completed by 167 participants from 16 schools in the Attica area. Results have shown that statistically there is a significant positive correlation between the teachers’ attitude towards intercultural education and their resilience. In the discussion following, an attempt is also made to present the results of the specific survey, through a more critical point of view, which sometimes but not always coincide with results from similar surveys while concluding this study, specific practices are suggested as well as further recommendations for research into these specific thematic areas.
