Summary:
Migrations of populations in modern times, brought about a change in the composition of society and made it multicultural. The new reality, created a variety of requirements, as the necessity of understanding the diversity, the development of respect for cultural diversity and the harmonious coexistence between the different ethnic-cultural groups, have emerged. This new cultural reality, imposed the need to redefine education and reorientation of school. New social conditions have brought to surface new terms such as "multiculturalism", "interculturalism", "intercultural education", "intercultural psychology", "intercultural awareness", "intercultural competence" and so on. In this context, intercultural competence and awareness of current educator, as well as the psychological climate, create motivation and values. Students are motivated to exercise their social skills, which will make them active and critically-minded citizens, with ultimate goal the understanding and cooperation among people. This paper, studies the role of intercultural readiness of teachers, in creating a positive psychological climate in mixed multicultural classes of primary education. Moreover, it examines whether this readiness, influences the five basic dimensions of classroom's psychological climate: "Order-organization," "conflict," "difficulty," "competitiveness," and "consistency". Data collection was done using a questionnaire given to teachers of all classes and specialties. Analysis of the results, showed that there is a correlation between the intercultural readiness, the experience of teachers and the positive climate of the classroom. Consequently, further education and training of teachers on intercultural education issues is needed, in order to make them intercultural ready.
