Summary:
Migration is a timeless phenomenon that we encounter from time to time with different motives and causes. In recent years, the influx of migrants to our country, which is a place of residence or transit, has been inflated in order to seek a better life. Greece, as a member of the EU, is called upon to implement policies and actions that will accept diversity, multiculturalism and the existence of equal rights for all. This challenge, which the state must face, should be based on the coexistence and organization of relations between indigenous and foreign.
The school, as a living organism and as a key provider of socialization and integration of the young person into society, must modernize and accept developments. The current school should implement practices aimed at providing equal opportunities, regardless of nationality or sex, eliminating prejudices and racism. The most important role in this effort is undertaken by teachers, who are sensitized promote collaboration, respect and equal participation of all students in the educational process. Although the school acts as a vector for the integration of second-generation migrant children, social exclusion is often observed. Many times, these children leave school early (school dropout), thus not having the same opportunities for social and professional advancement as their peers.
The specific research studies the phenomenon of social-educational exclusion in secondary education and the role played by the teacher in the integration of foreign second-generation students.
