Summary:
Ιn the modern world, wars, violence and injustice do not seem to end ever. In an attempt to replace this culture of violence with a culture of peace, peace education seeks to cultivate and energize non-violent and constructive ways of tackling conflicts while at the same time promoting the necessary skills, knowledge, attitudes and values.
This study aims to illustrate peace education practices in the educational and social context. Particular emphasis is placed on the educational area, as in it children learn values, shape their behavior, cultivate their spirit and soul. Often, school education is also commented on the maintenance and reinforcement of different forms of violence, including physical violence and inequality.
This paper examines the theoretical and practical aspects of peace education, violence and conflict, as well as key issues related to these aspects, including the position of peace in school education.
Practical part of the work highlights peace education programs that are being developed in conflict environments. Within these programs, the ways, means and techniques used are presented, so that the concepts of peace, justice and equality, become part of the social and educational framework. It also highlights, the innovative approaches adopted in the school environment and the continuous training of teachers in relevant concepts, values and practices.
