Summary:
Introduction: Any form of violence against women has direct or indirect long-term health consequences. The most common perpetrators of violence against women are male intimate partners or ex-partners. Health care professionals may be the first to whom a woman will ask for help and support. Therefore their role is very crucial to provide services in these women.
Aim: The purpose of this study was through e-learning education to help healthcare professionals improve their knowledge about violence against women by their partner. Furthermore, the improvement of their skills as well as their readiness to provide help to women who have been abused.
Methods: The sample of the study consisted of 119 health professionals (intervention group: 67 control group: 52). The research design was a randomized controlled trial between the subjects. The characteristics of the groups were equivalent and the participants were randomly assigned to them. The intervention took place through e-learning training which lasted 2-3 hours. The intervention team completed a questionnaire before the intervention and the same questionnaire after the completion of it. The control group completed the questionnaire twice without participating the e-learning training. The participation for the members of control group in the e-learning training was optional on condition that they had completed the second questionnaire after ten days. As regards the evaluation of the intervention the experimental group completed after the survey a satisfaction questionnaire.
Results: The experimental group after completing the e-learning training showed improvement in preparation perceived knowledge and real knowledge(p<0,001). In addition, the members of the intervention group experienced improvement in preparation (p<0,001), workplace issues (p<0,001), self-efficacy (p=0,002), alcohol/substances (p<0,001) and victim understanding (p=0,008).
Conclusions: This study contributed to help healthcare professionals to acquire knowledge and assesss their readiness to manage cases of women who have been subjected to violence. Furthermore, the contribution so as healthcare professionals be aware of psychosocial support and the provision of first-line support to women who have suffered from violence.
