Woman, Fashion & Media- The Formation of the Female Identity through Fashion and the Media
Summary:
Clothing constitutes a significant part of culture as, through its tight relationship with the human body, it greatly contributes in the formation, as well as the presentation, of the self. This Master’s dissertation aims in researching fashion’s significance, along with the way it is currently being communicated by the media, in respect to the formation of the female identity in the modern era. By considering that fashion can empower women in some ways, this dissertation also aims in proving that fashion can have a positive influence on female identity formation, through the promotion of an inclusive and wide range of dynamic role-models, fashion’s feminist potential, as well as the formation of a powerful, personal style.
