Iran's foreign policy in the geopolitical complex of the Greater Middle East after the Arab Uprisings of 2011.
Summary:
Since the outbreak of the Arabian upheavals in North Africa and the Middle East in 2011, major political and economic upheavals occur in the wider region due to many different factors interacting with each other. In this fluid state, Iran is striving to strengthen its position over its rivals' strategies and to gain a more upgraded role in the Middle East complex.
Iran has an important role in the Middle East complex, both economically and militarily. It has advantages that are rare in the other countries in the region, such as large land, significant geostrategic position, difficult geophysical territory, young population, huge oil and gas reserves, great army and major industry. For these reasons, the country has always been at the heart of the foreign policy of international and regional actors as far as the Middle East.
It is therefore extremely important to analyze Iran's action and influence in the Middle East. As this country also influences the redistribution of power, especially in an extremely complicated complex of great importance for international policy, such as the one of the complex considered.
Redistribution of power in the Middle East has various aspects that, although different, each affects the other in a variety of ways. For this, an in-depth and comprehensive analysis is imperative for an interdisciplinary approach to the issue over time. In the pages of this paper, the analysis is based on the Systemic Geopolitical Analysis.
The paper attempts to describe Iran's foreign policy through geopolitical analysis and combines it with the major actors of the complex and in areas of particular geostrategic importance at the present time. In particular, Iran's military and political support in Middle East regions are being analyzed, with the goal to protect its interests. Typical examples are Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen, as well as relations with organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas. The work also analyzes relationships with super-systemic actors (eg USA, China, Russia) and other countries belonging to the complex to be studied (eg Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey).
