Summary:
Ιn this study, theatrical techniques as a means of teaching tool in primary school to local history issues, as well as teachers’ perceptions about these techniques were investigated. Specifically, in the first part of the present study, which is also the theoretical part, the cross-curricular characteristics in school knowledge and their position in the history lesson according to the new curricula, were examined. Furthermore, the definition of the local history and its intercultural dimension, as well as its relation with the general history lesson and the theater, were highlighted. At the same time, the research of the Institute of Educational Policy for School History was analyzed and the structural elements of the theater and its various forms were presented, combined with the theatrical techniques and the teacher’s role. Particular emphasis was also given to the positive effects of the theater and the conclusions of other relevant studies. In this study the role of the teacher and his perception about the use of theater in education, especially in the lesson of local history was examined. In the second part of this study a research was carried out in a sample of 107 teachers, through the use of SPSS program and the conclusions were analysed. The findings showed that younger teachers of higher educational attainment and fewer years of work in education were more familiar with theatrical techniques. At the same time, it was shown that teachers, who know the importance and usefulness of theatrical techniques in the cultivation of historical thought and consciousness, and the fact that these techniques attract students' interest, integrate the aforementioned techniques into the lesson of the local history.
