Summary:
This dissertation makes an attempt to analyze the children’s and teenagers’ position in the literary works of Galateia Grigoriadou –Soureli, a well-known author of children and adolescent literature. In the first place, the paper presents an extensive and constructive approach to the author’s writing evolution and the experiences that influenced her personality, work and creative process. Additionally, this paper describes the social institutions and relationships, such as family, friendships and educational system, which lead to the creation of the author’s children and adolescent heroes. This dissertation also strives to identify the extent to which the characters’ family members and people of their wider social environment affect their actions, choices and psychology.
The paper concludes that the relations, the characters form with their parents, siblings and friends are decisively interconnected not only with their evolution but also with the positive life choices they make. The role of education is equally important for the development of the author’s characters. Moreover, the warm relations that were developed between her characters and their teachers, proved to play a pivotal role in the life of Galateia Grigoriadou –Soureli’s characters, too. Finally, the paper shows how the historical and social conditions of the time have an impact on both the everyday life of the heroes and their personal life journey.
