The poetry in the books of Greek Language in Primary School (1983 and 2005). The poets, the values, the atitudes and the ieas
Summary:
The purpose of this paper is the study and analysis of the poems contained in the books of Greek Language and Anthologies in Primary Education of 1983 and 2005.
The literature preferences of children, the basic traits and the way of teaching a poem to children were mentioned. Also, the Cross-curricular Single Program Curriculum, Analytic Curricula and the New Curriculum for the teaching of Modern Greek Language and Literature at the Primary School (Athens 2011), the school manuals of the language course of all grades of the Primary School and the corresponding teacher books of both periods were studied.
Through the analysis of the poems the values and their relationship with society, family, religion, homeland, peace and school were explored. Poetry offers values, ideas, and patterns that students use in their everyday lives. Afterwards, the poems that are common in both periods and the frequency with which the poets appear in each period are mentioned.
The ultimate goal is to enrich the current language manuals with more poems so that the pupil can get in touch with and benefit from poetry. We propose poems that existed in the 1983 language books and provide students with knowledge, attitudes and values that they will be able to use in their social lives. Poems that match the interests and social reality of the pupils. Of course, the role of the teacher is decisive as he/she is the one that will make students love poetry.
