Anatomical variations and congenital anomalies of the aortic arch
Summary:
The aortic arc is the focus of a variety of clinical scenarios, since it recommends the passage for intravascular access of the coronary arteries and of the vessels of the head and neck while it often suffers by requiring surgical or invasive treatment. Despite its apparent simplicity, various variations may arise in the branches and its course. Therefore, a review of these variations would be useful. The aim of this work is to refer to the descriptive and radiological anatomy of the aortic arc, the summary of the pathophysiological disorders that may arise from its variants and the basic principles of treatment.
The first part of this work focuses on the developmental anatomical of the aortic arc. The second part describes and summarizes the various variants, their embryological background, their clinical and radiological image and the therapeutic approaches that may be required.
