Summary:
The current research studies the suitability of the method “Transformative Learning through Aesthetic Experience” in the process of Career Decision Making in Vocational Counseling. It is based on theories of Career Decision Making, Dysfunctional Career Be-liefs and Transformative Learning through Art.
The sample of the study was 15 students of the 2ndgrade of High School and the study was focused in the research of potential transformations, after the intervention program (through artworks procession), regarding to the factors, the influence of parents, as well as the emotional status of the participants, that are taken into account through Career De-cision Making Process.
The qualitative methodology and in particular the thematic analysis were selected for the research. The results of the research contribute to highlighting the suitability of apply-ing the proposed method to students in the context of Vocational Guidance, as it was ob-served that mainly through the cultivation of critical thinking, the development of imagi-nation, and the identification of students with the central faces of works of art, after the intervention program, there were a) an enlargement focus on the factors that the partici-pants take into account in deciding future studies b) an emergence of a higher level of empathy and awareness, regarding to the parents’ influence in their choices, c) the adop-tion of a more active attitude through finding solutions to address the obstacles initially considered insurmountable, d) the vision of an ideal professional self, and e) a positive transformation of the participants’ emotional state. Finally, the research constraints are discussed, as well as proposals for future research.
