Summary:
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease currently is one of the first causes of death worldwide. It is an insidious disease as it does not have distinct symptoms and becomes evident when lung damage is no longer irreversible. It is characterized by bronchial obstruction and destraction of the pulmonary tissues. The result is the patient’s repeated hospitalization and a gradual change in the quality of their life. When a systematic administration of oxugen is required, effects multifacted the daily life of patients.
The main cause of COPD is smoking, even passive; and to a lesser extent the inhalation of other harmful substances of the enviroment. Therefore, the damage caused may be reduced if the patient abstains from the harmful agent (smoking cessation). Patients usually underestimate the severity of the disease, resulting in a greater burden on their health.
Awareness on COPD is important for the timely identification of the symptoms of the disease and for information on its severity.
This project aims to design, develop and implement a user-friendly website that provides information about the disease, its symptoms, its development and its prevention measures.
We will use Joomla!, an open sourse Content Management System in order to design and develop the website.
The expected results are to inform patients, their relatives and the citizen about the symptoms and the severity of the disease, and mainly the importance of stop smoking.
