Anatomical anomalies of the kidney and it's clinical significance
Summary:
Congenital kidney abnormalities are the most common congenital abnormalities in the urinary tract. It is a group of conditions, which may occur individually or in the context of various syndromes. The causes are complex. It is most likely that genetic and environmental factors combined with the complexity of embryogenesis of the kidney lead to renal impairment. The range of clinical manifestations of congenital kidney abnormalities is wide. There are disorders that may remain asymptomatic throughout adulthood and others that may appear shortly after birth with life-threatening symptoms such as bilateral renal agenesia. It is a fact that significant progress has been made in prenatal diagnosis, child surgical treatment as well as targeted therapies. This has greatly improved the prognosis and quality of life of these patients. Especially for pediatricians, they should include in the differential diagnosis the related kidney abnormalities. However, Urologists should also have these diagnoses in their diagnosis, which may complicate the clinical status of the patients.
