Self-similar magnetized jet models related to gamma ray bursts
Summary:
Outflows related to gamma ray bursts (GRB) will be studied. We will examine self-similar solutions of the relativistic magnetohydrodynamic equations, in order to achieve sufficiently high Lorentz factors, required by the compactness problem. Efficient conversion of magnetic to kinetic energy is required. The asymptotic value of Lorentz factor is estimated to be of the same order compared to the maximum limit. To relate such solutions to GRB outflows, time-dependence is needed, and is achieved by utilizing the frozen pulse approximation. Finally, impulsive acceleration, as an alternative acceleration method based on wave interaction, is discussed and compared.
